Junior Artist / Animator - Graduate Internship

Reports to: Managing Director

Salary: £14,859 per annum pro rata

Length of Contract: 6 Months Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of full time employment

Working Hours: 40 hours per week from around 10.00am to 6.00pm

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Organisation Sector: Computer games entertainment – development studio

The Company:

This Graduate Internship is with a computer games company that provides project development work for entertainment publishers. The studio is one year old and has an ambitious plan of growth, which means that additional resource is required to assist the company in realising its vision.

Main Purpose of Role:

You will be working on the prototype phase of the studio’s next major project.

Being at the prototype stage it's going to be all hands on deck, so this role requires a highly creative, motivated and committed individual. An all-rounder, with incredible attention to detail and outstanding digital and traditional art skills.

This Junior Animator role requires a candidate who is able to show the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Relevant degree 

Essential:

  • Technically minded artist with excellent knowledge of 3DSMax.
  • Outstanding ability in 2D and 3D Graphics - Proficiency in character modelling and texturing, environmental modelling and texturing, camera work, lighting, shaders, rigging, character animation, particle systems and visual effects and 2D art.
  • Animation will form a large part of this project so we will be looking for particularly strong ability in this area.
  • Because of the nature of the project, the candidate will also be expected to be able to demonstrate talent for level design and layout with game mechanics in mind.
  • Must have the ability to problem solve, work flexibly, adapt to required changes quickly and hit the ground running.
  • Self motivated and ambitious personality with a high level of attention to detail.

Desirable:
  • Strong traditional art skills and drawing ability are desirable.

The Graduate Internship Scheme is collaboration between the University of Sunderland, a recent Graduate and a regional SME. The Scheme has been designed to benefit both the Graduate and the company, ensuring that the Graduate takes the first steps on the career ladder whilst the company benefits from the Graduates enthusiasm, expertise and up to date knowledge.

The Internship is a full time position for a 6 month period with the possibility of full time employment.
